Outstanding. How some of the Canadians managed to keep their senses of humour in the trenches of WW1. Stories, songs, poems, irreverent cartoons, regimental newspapers. All in spite of the horrible conditions, amongst the lice and the mud and the rats and the dead and the bullets and the shells.

Cook is with the Canadian war museum in Ottawa. A very interesting read!
