SummaryAdd a Summary
Blue the SilkWing is a normal dragon who follows the rules. But his sister Luna's Metamorphosis takes an unexpected turn, revealing that Blue and Luna are flamesilks. Blue has to run away from Cicada Hive, along with Swordtail the SilkWing and Cricket the HiveWing, find the Book of Clearsight and save Luna, all before Blue's Metamorphosis begins.
At the beginning of the book, Blue the Silkwing and his sister Luna are preparing for Luna’s metamorphosis. Blue is exited and happy for his sister, but when her metamorphosis starts, Blue and his family are startled to see Luna weaving with fiery silk. Then, Blue sees Hivewing guards take Luna away. Blue’s friend Io tells him that Luna has a rare silkwing condition called Flamesilk. Io also warns Blue that the Hivewings and their queen, Queen Wasp, will try to capture him as well. When Blue tries to escape after Io’s warning, he sees many Hivewings suddenly doing strange things and trying to capture him. He finds out that this is because Queen Wasp can mind-control all Hivewings....Exept for one. Blue soon meets a Hivewing named Cricket, who is immune to Wasp’s mind control. Thanks to Cricket, Blue soon is able to find Swordtail, a friend of Luna. Swordtail, Blue, and Cricket fly to the Wasp hive, where they think Luna is imprisoned. Everything is going well until they get captured by several Leafwings, a tribe that was thought to be extinct. They tell Blue that if he and Cricket will steal the Book of Clearsight for them, they will show him where Luna is. Blue, Cricket, and Sundew (one of the Leafwings) go into the Library where Blue is captured by the Hivewings. He is taken to a cave where he finds Luna and many other Flamesilks. They escape though a hole in the cave, and crawl down a tunnel which leads onto a beach. They peacefully rest on the beach when some Hivewings attack. Luna is blown off into a storm and makes her way to Pyrrhia, where she meets Moon, Quibli, and Jerboa.
Everything is about to change.
Blue the SilkWing is content. Life in his Hive is safe; he loves his family; he has enough to eat. And Pantala has been at peace for as long as he can remember — SilkWings and HiveWings live and work together in harmony, and because they stay vigilant, no one has seen a dangerous LeafWing in years.
Now that Blue's sister, Luna, is undergoing her Metamorphosis, Blue knows things are going to change. Luna will have her wings and her silk, be assigned a partner and a work order, and move to another Hive. A few days later, Blue's own wings and silk will come in.
But nothing could prepare Blue for what happens when Luna's wings start to grow. Suddenly his world is turned upside down, throwing him into dangers he never knew existed. Pantala isn't as peaceful as it seems, and Blue isn't safe. Whether he's ready or not, it's time to adapt — and fight for his life.

“If you want to be in this conversation,” Blue shouted, “just come back and be in it already.”
There was a moment of rustling silence.
“No, no,” said Belladonna’s voice. “Carry on. Pretend we’re not here.”
“They won’t be OBVIOUS questions,” Cricket objected. “They will be VERY SUBTLE. I am an EXCEPTIONALLY subtle dragon, sir.”
“Hmm,” Blue said dubiously.
