"Soon after her twenty-fifth birthday, Libby Jones returns home from work to find the letter she's been waiting for her entire life. She rips it open with one driving thought: I am finally going to know who I am. She soon learns not only the identity of her birth parents, but also that she is the sole inheritor of their abandoned mansion on the banks of the Thames in London's fashionable Chelsea neighborhood, worth millions. Everything in Libby's life is about to change. But what she can't possibly know is that others have been waiting for this day as well--and she is on a collision course to meet them. Twenty-five years ago, police were called to 16 Cheyne Walk with reports of a baby crying. When they arrived, they found a healthy ten-month-old happily cooing in her crib in the bedroom. Downstairs in the kitchen lay three dead bodies, all dressed in black, next to a hastily scrawled note. And the four other children reported to live at Cheyne Walk were gone. In The Family Upstairs, the master of "bone-chilling suspense" (People) brings us the can't-look-away story of three entangled families living in a house with the darkest of secrets"-- Provided by publisher.

Well, The Family Upstairs is fabulous! This is one of those page turners, can't put down, "don't bother me while I'm reading," books! I have read Lisa Jewell's work before and really enjoyed the way she approaches mysteries. I was really impressed by the twists and turns in the narrativ... Read More »

This story keeps readers guessing until the end, maintaining a deeply enticing atmosphere through cleverly-crafted characters, a rich, British setting, and psychological uncertainty. This book provides not only a thrilling story, but a thorough piece of entertainment, involving the reader in the mystery through carefully crafted dialogue and text. Highly recommend.

At times I found myself getting anxious reading this book, but it was well worth it. Very dark at times but then the light would shine through.

Just loved this book, by the time I got half way through I couldn't put it down. Because the author switches between the views of three different characters, reading just one chapter a at a time wasn't an option. Highly recommend.

This is a fabulous book. I couldn’t put it down....just had to find out how it ended. This is the first time I’ve read anything by Lisa Jewell and I’ll be looking for more from her. Definitely a worthwhile read.

This book is a prime example of why I love Lisa Jewell's work. Pick up one of her books and the game is on; one never knows what kinds of twisted lie behind any closed door. The Family Upstairs is an astounding story - creepy, scary, heart wrenching, confusing at times but it seems to work itself out by the end. Definitely recommend this book

Wow!! This is one crazy, crazy story! When I thought the plots were dragging, the author would throw in a curveball to shake things up. The ending is definitely well worth the wait!

Good, easy read. Nothing extraordinary, good concept and story line but a little dry, but overall a decent read.
