Not wanting to simply plow through the book, I took my time with this one. It's a fantastic collection of stories, my favorite was (of course) "Daughters of Baba Yaga", which I read twice. The last story in the collection, "Why They Watch Us Burn" was really powerful and a great way to wrap things up.

What I loved most about this collection is the representation of various paths of Witchcraft, as well as the various time periods where the stories are set. It isn't all one note. It's a kaleidoscope. Some stories are in soft colors and beautiful patterns that gently morph before your eyes. Others are angry slashes of obsidian and garnet, splashes of slate and aquamarine, shades of violet and copper exploding across the page.

A great read for the long winter nights and definitely something I would pick up again.

I really enjoyed this collection of short stories and I think many women and teenage girls would love it as well. It touches on many issues with family expectations, love, loss, tradition, tragedy (rape, though not explicit is present), and triumph/redemption. It’s very “Girl Power” and supportive of MeToo and LGBTQIA+ I found it to be great and would definitely recommend!

What a great read for October! This collection of stories about diverse witches with a wide variety of powers and paths has a little something for everyone. Both spooky and moving, these stories might even inspire you to try casting a spell or two yourself.
